People always say it’s really hard to quit smoking and you have to try a few times before you successfully quit. I know some people who are constantly saying they’re going to do something, stick to it for a few weeks and then, all of a sudden, forget about it or go back to their old ways.Ī common one is ‘I’m going to quit smoking’ then a few days later they’re smoking again because according to them, ‘it’s been a stressful week’. That’s because I knew why I needed to change and I know where I want to be in life. I’ve never once had the urge to go back to my old ways. From that moment, I’ve never looked back. In a time frame of about 30 seconds I decided to quit drinking, quit partying, quit giving up and to chase my goals.

This is bullshit! When 2017 came, I remember it was the 22nd of January, I had just woken up from a big night and on that morning I said ‘That’s enough, it’s time to make a change’. People always say it’s harder said then done, it’s not that easy to stick to your goal or it’s not that easy to quit something you’ve been doing for years. You have to know why you’re doing something. That’s the thing, unless you truly want to do something, you’ll never stick to it. The problem was that I knew it was time to change, but I didn’t have a goal to justify the need. It’s easy to say you’re going to do something and then never act on it but it’s powerful to decide you’re going to do something and then give in 100%. The next weekend would come around I would say the same thing, then the next came and the next and the next, until eventually it was a running joke. The weekend would come around and I would tell all my friends that I wasn’t going to drink but sure enough, I did anyway. In 2016, I wanted to give up drinking and focus on working towards my goals. It is your determination that fuels your courage, and that is what propels you to reach your goal in spite of the obstacles. If you say you’re going to do something, do it! When you’re committed enough to reach your goals, giving up isn’t easy. There is always a failure behind every great success, and it is always the result of overcoming it. There has never been anything significant achieved through quick and easy steps nothing worthwhile has ever been accomplished without significant effort and comprehensive planning.Ī failure has played an important role in every great success story. Even if you lose, you can learn a great deal from it. It’s better to participate and lose than to ignore the opportunity. The fastest way to lose is not to participate. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but the most important thing is not to give up and keep playing. We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated. It is vital to plan thoroughly and act realistically while keeping a healthy dose of optimism. In contrast, it’s better to practice patience and persevere when your efforts can help you achieve short-term and long-term goals. When you cannot control the outcome despite your most sincere efforts, it is time to move on to the next. Sometimes it’s better to let go than to hold on.Īsk yourself a question when things don’t work, and see if you can do anything to fix it. Not giving up isn’t always the right strategy.

You have to know when to keep pushing and when to give up. As long as you take action to eliminate these loopholes, the more robust you’ll be. The idea is to avoid losing in the same way as before. If things do not work as expected, take a moment to reflect, identify what is causing the problem, and develop the most effective strategy to avoid making the same mistake again. Taking the challenge and overcoming it is what makes us stronger and better than before.įailure or defeat is inevitable, but the key is not to give up. No one ever achieved anything noteworthy without facing them. We can either face them or run from them. There will always be challenges in our lives. When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it. Finding the right balance between optimism and realism is key. While dreams are limitless, your approach to achieving them must be realistic. It’s not about moving forward indefinitely, but rather about moving forward in the right direction. Success and failure are nothing more than the result of your efforts. What matters is how you handle both situations. Both winning and losing are part of the game. There’s no defeat until you quit, and winners never quit until they win. It takes perseverance and the ability to learn from each step. Meaningful things take time and effort and are unlikely to be accomplished in one go. It is important to understand that nothing significant is achieved through quick and easy steps. Losing is almost impossible unless you give up. There is no such thing as losing, either you win or you learn. Winners never quit and quitters never win.
